Go to St Paul's Church

I went to the Nanjing St Paul's Church on 29th March, 2009. The church is at 396 Taiping Road, Nanjing. I went there with my friends Sima, Kathleen, Nelly, Charles and Doria. The service began at 10:30a.m. I arrived there very late at about 11:00a.m because of my class that morning. The traffic was also very busy at that time and the taxi driver did not know the route to the Nanjing St Paul's Church.

We chose Christianity because it is the biggest religion in the world and my friends recommended me to go there. They said Nanjing St Paul's Church is near our school and famous. It had sixteen sections. There were prelude, call to worship, hymn, responsive reading, scripture, the Apostles ‘ Creed, Gloria patri, the collect, anthem, sermon, hymn, the Lord's prayer, doxology, benediction, hymn and postlude.

I had no feeling about it because I am not a Christian and I did not know anything about it except Jesus. I did not understand what we did in the church. I had no idea about John, Glory and many other things. When I there, I just looked at other people and saw what they were doing. Then I did the same things. I did not really know what I did and why should I do these, so it was indifferent for me.

Some people say faiths are important for us; it can make us more confident and positive. Some people think people will have indebted hearts and become kind if they have religions, but I think it is not very important for me. I do not think religions can help me so much. I suppose it is necessary for us to believe ourselves, but through this process, I became know more western culture and understood their religious activities.

Act in the NFLS Anniversary's performance

I joined NFLS 45th Anniversary’s performance on 12th December, 2008. The performance was held at the Nanjing Great Hall of the People. I played the zither in GCA's performance.

I performed in this show because of my friends. One day, one of my friends suddenly called me. She asked me if I can play the zither or not. She told me that Only in Grade 11 needed some girls to play the zither in the NFLS 45th Anniversary’s performance. I thought a moment, and then agreed to perform. This was how I got involved in this performance.

Before the show began, we practiced hard. During lunch time and after-class time, you all could see we were practicing. We did not remember how long and how many times we practice. We from did not know each other to became good friends. During the process, I harvested the precious friendship and enjoyed the process of struggle. I felt very happy, excited and was looking forward to the performance.

In the morning of the performance day, we did not do a good job. All the people felt sad and worried. We know that we are lack of organization and cooperation, so we improve ourselves. In that afternoon, we did a great job. All the people clapped their hands for us. This was an exciting and valuable time that I will remember forever. Through this experience I knew the importance of organization﹑cooperation and team spirit, do every group project needs these skills. These tricks can make your group more efficiently and have a good relationship. More people have more strength; these skills can make sure all your group members put all their effort into the work and the whole group in good condition. The group members' abilities will be played to the extreme and the work will be finished perfectly.

Although the process of the practice was difficult and tried, I enjoyed it very much and if I have another chance I will perform with other people, too

The taming of the shrew

I went to the performance called the taming of the shrew on the 19th December at NFLS Auditorium (3rd Floor, over Cafeteria) 30 Beijing Dong Lu, Nanjing. I went there with my friends: Nelly, Kathleen, Doria and Sima. All ticket sales and donations from the performance would go to the Pfrang Association. This performance was performed by the members from movie club.

We arrived there at about 6: 15 p.m. and the doors opened at about 6:30p.m. even a little bit later. The show begins at about 7:00 p.m. I chose this performance had three reasons. The first one was it was held by GCA, the second reason was the price of it was cheap, the last one was my friends recommended me to go there.

The main characters of it were Katharina and Petruchio. They were personated by Cherry and Fan. The show was so great, I like it very much. It was a story about Katharina who was Baptista's daughter. She was a noblewoman and a grumpy shrew but she was smart and full of wisdom. A man called Petruchio got married with her and helped her to become a compliant and gentle woman. The dialogue and the plot were funny, I thought. The process of change was not easy, but it was full of fun and intelligence. I thought the most interesting scene was Katharina was angry and hit Petruchio. Katharina's angry countenance and Petruchio's poor countenance made me laugh.

I like it not only because the interesting plot, gorgeously dressed, richly ornamented and actors' consummate acting skill, but also because I can know some truth of the life. I knew if we want to be successful, we should have an exact goal. Next you should have confidence and courage, then you need to put all your effort into it, finally you can be a winner.

This is a movie from PE 10 class. It is about my friends and I were playing badminton game.

My volunteer work

I worked in Jingqiao Rest-home as a volunteer for 10 hours. Jingqiao Rest-home is the biggest rest home in my hometown. There are about 40 elderly people and only 6-7 workers. I helped workers to cook, cleaned old people's houses and did many other small things. I went there for two days and had a nice time there. Through my work experience, I learnt a lot of things.

Old people as a vulnerable group of society need more love. When I worked there, I found that many old people's lives were becoming worse and worse. They can not do many things on their own and they need us to do more for them to make their lives better and better. In fact, many people always look down on the old people; they think the old people are always ill and dirty. Most of them are poor and can not do many things, but through my volunteer experience, I know that we should give the old people more love because everybody will become old. Many years later, we will be one of them, too. After this process, I thought of my grandparents. They are also very old. They live in a small town and far away from us. We only saw them during each spring festival. They must be lonely in most of the time. We just gave them money but we did not do what they are really needed. They need moral and spiritual comfort rather than material enjoyment, so I decided to visit my grandparents each month. I found that when I looked at their smile face, I felt happy, too. I became understand respect for others is to respect myself.

Through my work experience, I knew work with other people was important in any time. Before I worked there, I thought old people were easy to take care of, so my job was simple, I can do it quickly and nicely, but everything was not as favoring as that. Just the cleaning work was enough to make me feel tried and uncomfortable. The rooms were dirty and had a strange and bad smell, although workers had cleaned yesterday. When I came into their rooms, I felt I can not breathe. Some of the old people could not fold the quilts and clothes. I helped them to do these small things. I spent a half day to finish the cleaning work. I had a hard time to do these by myself. In the afternoon, I cooked the lunch with other volunteers. It was much easier for me to do these, even though I have not cooked so much food for one meal. I thought the most important problem is if you work with other or not. Working with other people can come up with many different ideas and more people have more strength, but how to work with other people effectively and safely? During this process, I knew we should have good personalities and characters, and then people will be willing to work with you. Next you need to encourage each other, and then all the people can have more passion. If you are a leader, you should know all the members' interest and what they are good at, and then give them the work which is suitable for them. If you are a member, you should cooperate energetically. If you are only a people, you should know what you are interest in and what you are good at, then when you work, you can play up strengths and avoid weakness.

I thought this volunteer work experience can help me know how to work with other people and how to take care of old people. In the school, we need to do many projects with groups, so the skills of communication are very useful. If all the students in our school become outgoing and good at communicating, the school will become better and better, so I think we should do more work like this.
